Steve Carnell

Steve has been a resident of Collier County and employed with the local government since 1985. He first became involved with the United Way in 1996 as a member of a budget review panel, and he has served as Collier County government’s representative on the local United Way Board since 2013.

Steve currently serves as the head of the Public Services Department for the Collier County government. The department provides a myriad of services to the community, including parks, libraries, museums, domestic animal services, community and human services, the Collier Agency Transit (CAT) bus system, veterans services, the University of Florida’s Extension Service, and the Collier County Public Health Unit. Prior to his service at the Public Services Department head in 2012, Steve has served as the county’s Purchasing Director, as well as a budget analyst. Before pursuing a career in the public sector, Steve worked as a newspaper and radio journalist. His work in our community has made him a powerful advocate for Collier County, and his experiences have given him an insight into the affordable housing crisis facing Naples.

Steve holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a Master’s degree in public administration from the University of Florida. He is a Certified Public Manager through the Florida State University program, the first Collier County to earn the accreditation. Together with his wife Sharon, he is a father of nine and a grandfather of four.
