Larry Ray

Larry has served as Collier County Tax Collector since his election in 2008. As Tax Collector, he is responsible for the collection and distribution of all property taxes and tourist development taxes in Collier County.  Additionally, as he oversees both Department of Motor Vehicle and Driver Licenses operations in the county. 

After serving in the Army for 23 years, Larry entered the private sector, initially as a project manager, developing software designed to track equipment readiness for the Army.  In 1991, Larry shifted his focus from service in defense of his country, to service to the citizens of Collier County.  He and his wife Pam moved to Naples and he joined the management team at Naples Community Hospital.  As Vice President of Facilities and Construction, Larry has overseen the expansion of services to include the construction of the Shick Heart Center, the Lutgert Cancer Center, the Whitaker Wellness Center and the expansion of North Collier Hospital from 50 beds to over 300 beds.  During his tenure at the hospital, Larry managed over 150 million dollars of capital improvements.

Larry is active in the Naples community having served on the boards of United Way Collier County, Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida and the Health Planning Council of Southwest.  Additionally, he has been a member of the Collier County Privatization Committee and the Collier County Transportation Citizens Advisory Committee.  He is a graduate of Leadership Collier, the Leadership Institute Executive Management Program at Hodges University, and a past president of the Naples North Rotary Club.

Larry Ray was born and grew up in Troy, Alabama.  He received a Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of Missouri and a Masters of Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis.  He graduated from both fixed and rotary wing flight school and served two tours as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam.
