Caring for the Community

United Way Campaign Kickoff

The 2007 community campaign, chaired by Rose Branda and Craig Bamberg will officially kick off September 29 at the second annual United Way Walk at the Collier County Park on Livingston Road.

The kick-off and Walk is the first of many community efforts taking place over the next few months to meet (and exceed) the 2007 goal of $2.8 million dollars, a challenging increase of 12% per cent over the previous year’s $2.5 million goal. By supporting the kick-off and Walk, over 1000 people, put faces to the 2007 theme I AM UNITED WAY .

As the campaign continues, thousands in Collier County will say I AM UNITED WAY by reaching out to improve the lives with the caring power of our community.

We want all of Collier County, individuals--working and retired; local, family-owned businesses to global corporations; government employees, school children, young professional and part time residents—to join together and as a community and say I AM UNITED WAY!

Get Involved! You are United Way!

Corporate contributors comprise a major part of United Way’s donations.

  1. You can organize and manage a corporate campaign at your place of business. Our staff will be with you every step of the way and help you develop an effective and fun campaign, providing speakers, campaign brochures and pledge cards, videos and other material you might find helpful. It is important to us that your campaign be as easy and painless as possible!

  2. Be a Pacesetter. Your company can get a head start with the campaign and receive special recognition. A Pacesetter campaign is completed prior to the official kick-off and results are announced at the kickoff. Pacesetters constitute the foundation of the campaign’s efforts, creating momentum for the rest of the campaign.

  3. In our rapidly growing business community, providing introductions to business owners and managers is very valuable to United Way. By letting the business owner know you support United Way is a great way to help us find new supporters.

Individual and residential donations represent a larger percentage of community contributions than in many other United Ways. Your support in our residential campaign provides a great opportunity to reach out to a far greater number of residents. Many new residents are unaware of issues that are unique to Collier County, assuming our United Way is like the United Way “back home.” You will have a positive impact on someone’s life and you can do so by:

  1. Organizing and participating in a United Way campaign in your neighborhood or community. Get your neighbors involved. Hold a block party. Maybe a golf or tennis tournament would have appeal to your neighbors. You may even want to challenge another community to match what your community raises.
  2. Host smaller groups in your home or have a progressive dinner party with a United Way agency speaker at each stop.
  3. Include information about the United Way campaign and its partner agencies in your community newsletter.
  4. Some of our supporters directly solicit their neighbors, face to face or through a selected mailing. One of these might work for you.

There are many ways to assist in the campaign, limited only by one’s imagination. Please contact Shannon Anderson, Campaign Director to put your ideas to work.
