Debbie Mathews Finch
Debbie Mathews Finch retired from the Hanover Insurance Group headquartered in Worcester, Massachusetts after 38 years in human resources. Hanover today is a $5 billion international company with 5,500 employees at multiple locations in the United States, the UK, Europe and Asia. During those 38 years there were mergers, acquisitions, IPOs, and a “near-death” experience for The Hanover. In fact, The Hanover over the last 12 years has made the only successful turnaround in the history of the US insurance industry. Debbie was instrumental in this turnaround and held various HR positions during her tenure; Vice President of Human Resources, Vice President Talent Acquisition, Vice President of Talent Management, and Vice President of Executive Recruiting. A notable milestone for Debbie came in 1992 when she was first named Vice President, the first female Vice President in the 76 year history of the company.
Alongside of her business career, Debbie has had a long nonprofit career, and specifically with the United Way of Livingston County, Michigan where she was the President of the Board of Directors. She also was a Founding Member of the Women’s Initiative at the United Way of Central Massachusetts. Additionally, Debbie has been involved with Junior Achievement as a Board Member, and the Community Foundation of the Greater Worcester area. She has taught in her spare time at Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts, and was a Trustee at Cleary University in Michigan. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan and holds numerous other professional designations.
